What it is – 01

What does a product engineer do?

A product engineer owns a product end to end: finds the problem worth solving, ships the first version fast, and keeps improving it with real user data.

Cristian Correa is a product engineer in Bogotá who has done this twice as a founder: Kebo grew to more than 100,000 users, and Croma runs in production at Banco Finandina and Incomercio.

Croma

Kebo

Open-source AI agent for personal finance, founded in 2024. More than 100,000 users and 30,000 monthly active users in Latin America.

Rappi Ads

Data foundation for Rappi's ads business, including the keyword recommendation system and the analysis behind churn and revenue decisions.

Hackathons

10 awards since 2023, among them Platanus Hack 2025 (online winner, Scrapi) and the Vercel AI Gateway Hackathon (1st place, Chess Battle).

How I work – 03

From idea to product in five steps

1. Problem

Talk to the people who have it and write down the one job the product must do.

2. Prototype

A working version in days, not a deck, so users react to something real.

3. Ship

Put it in front of real users early, with analytics and error tracking from day one.

4. Measure

Read the data: activation, retention and where people drop off.

5. Iterate

Cut what nobody uses, double down on what works, and ship again every week.

Questions

What does a product engineer do?

A product engineer owns a product end to end: finds the problem worth solving, ships the first version fast, and keeps improving it with real user data.

Product engineer, software engineer, full-stack or founding engineer: what's the difference?

A software engineer builds what is specified. A full-stack engineer covers frontend and backend. A product engineer also decides what to build from user data, and a founding engineer does all of that as one of a startup's first hires. Cristian Correa has worked as all four.

What has Cristian Correa shipped as a product engineer?

Croma, a government data API used in production by Banco Finandina and Incomercio; Kebo, an AI finance agent with more than 100,000 users; Rappi Ads data systems; and open-source tools like SQL4All, C3 and LaTeX0.

Does Cristian Correa work with US companies?

Bogotá runs on UTC-5 all year, the same clock as US Eastern in winter and US Central in summer, so a full workday overlaps. He works in English and Spanish; write to cristian.correa.cs@gmail.com.

Which stack does he use?

TypeScript, Next.js and React on the web, Expo for mobile, Postgres and Supabase for data, Python and SQL for analytics, and the Vercel AI SDK with MCP for AI features.
