What it is – 01

What does a government data engineer do?

A government data engineer turns official public records, such as company registries, court cases, tax status, public procurement and sanctions lists, into a reliable API: finding each source, extracting it, normalizing it and keeping it current with its provenance.

Cristian Correa does this full time as founder of Croma, the government data API for Claude and ChatGPT. Croma integrates 116 official sources from Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Brazil, the United States, El Salvador, Bolivia and Japan into 330 live endpoints, used in production by Banco Finandina and Incomercio.

Sources – 02

Colombian government sources in Croma

Every source publishes in its own way: open datasets, web portals, documents. Outside Colombia the same API covers sources such as SUNAT in Peru, the Diario Oficial de la Federación in Mexico, the SEC and OFAC in the United States and the Supreme Court of El Salvador.

RUES

Colombia's single business registry: company status, legal representatives and registration data from every chamber of commerce.

Rama Judicial

Court cases by party or case number (radicado) from Colombia's judicial branch.

DIAN

The tax authority: taxpayer status, electronic invoicing documents and tax doctrine.

SECOP

Public procurement: processes, contracts, suppliers and sanctions from Colombia Compra Eficiente.

Supersociedades

Financial statements, ownership and insolvency processes of supervised companies.

Proof – 03

Government data in production

Croma

Government data API and MCP server with 330 live endpoints, used in production by Banco Finandina and Incomercio for credit, legal and compliance work.

Ventanilla

A public assistant that explains government procedures in Colombia and El Salvador with official sources, built on Croma.

El Salvador tourism guide

Official tourism data from El Salvador's Ministry of Tourism, served through Croma and published in Spanish, English, Portuguese and French.

Big data before Croma

Data platforms at Rappi, Platzi and Nubank: warehouses on BigQuery, Snowflake and Redshift, with dbt, Airflow and Spark.

Before Croma – 04

AI and data consulting for public entities and companies

ADRES (2020)

AI and data consulting for the entity that administers the resources of Colombia's health system. ADRES affiliation status is now an official source in Croma.

El Tiempo (2024)

AI solutions with easy-to-use interfaces and plagiarism detection methods for the El Tiempo team.

Paak (2024)

Data architecture and engineering for Paak's data infrastructure.

How it works – 05

From official source to API in five steps

1. Find

Map the official entity that owns the record and how it publishes it.

2. Extract

Pull it reliably, whether it is an open dataset, a web portal or a document.

3. Normalize

Clean names, IDs and dates into one consistent schema across countries.

4. Serve

Expose it through REST and MCP, with the source of every record.

5. Monitor

Watch each source for changes and alert when new records appear.

Questions – 06

Questions

What does a government data engineer do?

A government data engineer turns official public records, such as company registries, court cases, tax status, public procurement and sanctions lists, into a reliable API: finding each source, extracting it, normalizing it and keeping it current with its provenance.

Government data engineer, data integration expert or big data engineer: what's the difference?

A big data engineer builds systems that move and process large volumes of data. A data integration expert connects many sources into one consistent model. A government data engineer does both for official public records, where every source has its own format, portal and update cycle. Cristian Correa works across all three as founder of Croma.

What is a government data API?

A government data API returns official public records, like company registrations, court cases or tax status, as structured data that software can query, instead of someone searching each government portal by hand. Croma is a government data API for Latin America, the United States and Japan.

Which government sources does Croma cover?

116 official sources in 8 countries, through 330 live endpoints. In Colombia these include RUES, Rama Judicial, DIAN, SECOP, Supersociedades, Procuraduría and Contraloría; elsewhere SUNAT in Peru, the Diario Oficial de la Federación in Mexico, and the SEC and OFAC in the United States.

Can AI agents like Claude or ChatGPT query government data?

Yes. Croma works as an MCP connector, so Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client can query official records directly and cite the source of each one.

Who uses a government data API?

Banks, lenders, legal, credit and compliance teams, for due diligence, know-your-customer checks and monitoring. Croma is in production at Banco Finandina and Incomercio.

Does Croma follow data-protection law?

Croma works with records published by official government sources and follows the data-protection law of each country whose records it covers. The details are in Croma's privacy policy and terms of service.

Has Cristian Correa worked with Colombian government entities?

Yes. Before founding Croma he worked as an AI and data consultant for ADRES, which administers the resources of Colombia's health system (2020), and on a project with the Diario Oficial of the Imprenta Nacional de Colombia (2024). Both are now official sources in Croma.

Does Cristian Correa have big data experience?

Yes. Since 2018 he has built data platforms at Azzorti, Rappi, Platzi and Nubank: the data foundation for Rappi Ads, Platzi's warehouse migration from Redshift to BigQuery, and cashback data at Nubank. He is SnowPro Core and dbt Fundamentals certified.
